Day of the Dead Community Event 2011


The 2011 Day of the Dead Community Event will be a week long event held at Global Gallery Coffee Shop in Clintonville, coordinated by Latino Arts for Humanity and Global Gallery. The schedule of  events planned for the week of October 29th through November 5th is as follows:



Saturday, October 29th

  • Altar Exhibition, Face Painting
  • From "Evolved Body Art" Artists: Andy Ringo, Joe Schmoe, Chris Borchik, Marah Stain, Oliver Martinez, Joe Stevens and Chad Allison
  • Artist Santos Gonzalez will show how he brings old furniture and wood pieces to life by recycling and painting them
  • Center for Latin Hope Paper Skulls Exhibition
  • First Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbus sugar skulls
      6:30pm Rodolfo Vazquez Musical Performance
      7:30pm "What is the Day of the Dead About?"
      8:00pm Art of Hosting Conversation by Ruben Herrera



Sunday, October 30th

  • Altar Exhibition, Sand Carpet
  • Artist Santos Gonzalez Artwork Exhibition
  • "How Do We Honor the Dead Around the World?" by Patricia Kasik, Sonja Arnold, Luka Sydstol, Caratina Widmark, Emmerentianna Ndeke, Maria Fatima Sylva Leyva
5:30pm Poetry Readings
6-8:00pm Columbus International Program Presentation



Monday, October 31st

Tuesday, November 1st
(The day to honor children)

  • Tamales, Pan de Muerto, Sulce de Arroz
6:00pm Erika Hernandez Paper Flowers Tutorial
7:00pm "What is the Day of the Dead About?" Invitation to general public to bring portraits or flowers to honor their friends and family. People are welcome to write messages and place them at the community altar.



Wednesday, November 2nd
